Climate & Weather

The climate in the Philippines can broadly be described as hot and humid. There are two main seasons: the dry season (which starts in September and ends in May), and the rainy season (which starts in June and ends in September).

If you watch CNN Weather, you will be given the impression that the temperature in Manila is always a steady 31 degrees centigrade. The temperature does actually fluctuate slightly (usually between 26 degrees and 35 degrees), but basically it is just 'hot'. Outside the capital the temperatures are much the same, but if you are anywhere near the coastline you will experience a cool and refreshing ocean breeze.

The coolest time of year is Christmas, and a popular time to visit the country is between November and March because the weather is comparatively cool with virtually no rain. Northern parts of the country – especially Baguio, the country's "summer capital" – experience more cool weather than southern parts such as Cebu and Davao.

The water temperature is always very pleasant, and the white sandy beaches are very popular with tourists.
